Resizing text

In most browsers, you are able to resize the text shown in a webpage ( if the site allows for it). This is especially useful if you find the text hard to read. You'll find this option on Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer via the menu bar ( View > Text size ) OR press the CTRL key and + to increases text & CTRL key and - to decrees text.

For the Safari browser on a Macintosh computers via the menu bar ( View > Make text Bigger) OR press the Command key and + to increases text.

Images

All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT & TITLE attributes. – this is activated when you pass the mouse over the image. The ALT text will also be read out by any text reader. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.

All the gallery images displayed on this site uses the "lightbox" script to enlarge images. It is still posible to enlarge these images without java enabled. To close an image opened with the "lightbox" script just click the red close button at the bottom right of the image window just below the image and the image will then disspar off of the users screen.

Links

Alan Joy Windows provides text links for all navigational links to other pages in order to speed up download time. ‘Skip to content’ links have been added to every page to enable screen readers to bypass unnecessary text.

Visual design

The visual design of Alan Joy Windows has been created with RNIB guidelines in mind i.e. using contrasting colours to enable clarity for visually impaired readers. Alan Joy Windows also uses colour coding and icons for each zone to help with identifying the site layout. This is particularly useful for people with learning disabilities. This site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout and the page size is set at 1024 x 768 pixels so should be available as a full screen for users with small screen monitors.

This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
